AT A GLANCE
Iconic Swedish bed manufacturer Hästens was founded by saddler Pehr Adolf, who on 22 March 1852 was awarded the title of Master Saddler by the Swedish King. Following his ethos and determination for quality craftsmanship, the generations that came after him continued his legacy to create handcrafted mattresses and beds of the highest standards, only using natural materials.
Hästens beds are still handcrafted in its original location, in the small town of Köping, Sweden, which is approximately two hours west of Stockholm. From there their products are shipped worldwide to more than 250 stores and 36 countries.
Hästens believe their beds are “the best in the world”. They incessantly strive for excellence and their team of highly skilled craftsmen continuously refine their products.
In their recent past, Hästens have heavily focussed on design. They collaborated with eminent design agency Bernadotte & Kylberg on the 40th anniversary of their iconic bluecheck fabric as well as with master designer Ferris Fauli on the design of their Grand Vividus, one of the world’s most exclusive beds.

Not only is horsehair natural, it also carries a very effective, almost “built-in” ventilation system. The horsehair Hästens use in their beds has been tested by numerous independent European research institutes, who have found it to be entirely free of any allergens, making it hypo-allergenic. Every single strand of horsehair is curled, creating tiny springs, which enhance the internal spring system of Hästens’ beds and provide additional support and pliability.
Cotton provides excellent comfort and breathability, allowing air to circulate around the body. keeping it dry and comfortable and thus maintaining a healthy sleep environment. These benefits make it easier to fall asleep and ensure a longer and deeper sleep. Cotton’s softness, strength and breathability make it the perfect companion to horsehair.
Pure wool allows for the ideal sleep and bed climate. It keeps the body warm when it is cold and cool when it is hot. Natural climate control that is also highly flame-resistant.
Flax has been used for centuries and is both incredibly durable and flexible. It diverts static and offers high levels of noise and vibration absorption. It gives the body the opportunity to regenerate in peace and comfort.
Hästens’ wooden frames are what give their beds their remarkable strength and stability. Their frames are made of solid, carefully sourced pine trees from Northern Sweden’s forests. The climate slows down the trees’ growth, making the wood stronger and allowing Hästens to give a 25 year warranty on all their frames.
All Hästens’ beds contain two or more spring systems – a combination of soft and flexible pocket springs, which offer surface softness, as well as firmer bonnell springs below that, for additional support. The spring systems work harmoniously allowing the bed to conform to the body giving maximum support and relaxation. Hästens offer a 25 year warranty on all springs used in their beds.
