About Somnus
Founded in 1840, family run Harrison Spinks are said to be the world’s most sustainable bed manufacturer. Not only do they build comfortable, luxurious and innovative boxspring beds, they are also dedicated to sustainability, like no one else. Their aim is to be as self sufficient and circular as possible, by growing their own, hemp and flax as well as keeping 600 sheep on their 300 acre farm in Yorkshire. All of the natural materials they grow, are used to produce their beds. The company also owns their own 56 acre woodland in the North of England.
Harrison Spinks pledge to recycle every mattress they produce that contains their Cortec® spring technology and are committed to continuous innovation. They are the inventors of the world-leading micro pocket spring technology, which is used across all their mattress collections and offers unrivalled comfort and support.
In 2013, Harrison Spinks were awarded two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in Innovation and Sustainable Development and in 2018 another two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in Innovation and International Trade.
The company also recently gained Carbon Neutral + accreditation for their award winning sustainability.
All fabrics are woven in house and made of damask, which is completely free of any fire retardant chemicals.

Wool
Nature’s material for keeping the body cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s cold. In addition to the wool from their own farm, Harrison Spinks sources additional wool from the British Wool Marketing Board to help support local businesses.

Hemp is a resilient, antibacterial and durable natural fibre, making it the perfect material for mattresses. Every acre of hemp grown on the farm, absorbs one tonne of CO2 every year. The fibre is also 100% recyclable at the end of a mattress’ life.
